About This Service

Calgary’s Trusted Patios & Walkways Experts

A well-built patio is one of the highest-return investments you can make in your Calgary home. All The Moore Landscaping specializes in Belgard paver patios, natural stone surfaces, and interlocking walkways designed to handle Alberta's freeze-thaw cycles year after year. As certified Belgard installers, we have factory-trained knowledge and access to the full product catalog, which means you get the right product for your application and a warranty that stands behind it.

What separates a patio that looks great for three years from one that still looks great at twenty-five is almost entirely in the base preparation. Calgary's clay soils move significantly with seasonal frost, and a paver system installed on a shallow or improperly compacted base will heave, settle, and fail. We excavate to the correct frost depth, install a properly graded granular base, compact in lifts, and install edge restraint that keeps the entire system locked. Every single time, without exception, regardless of how straightforward a project might seem.

Options & Materials

Patio and Walkway Options We Install

01

Belgard Interlocking Paver Patios

As certified Belgard installers, we build interlocking paver patios using the full Belgard product line including Urbana, Mega Arbel, Lafitt, Holland Stone, and Tremron products. Belgard pavers offer exceptional durability and dimensional consistency, and as an authorized installer we can warranty both the product and the installation. Belgard is our first recommendation for most Calgary residential patios because of their track record in this climate.

02

Natural Flagstone and Cut Stone Surfaces

Natural flagstone patios have an organic, timeless look that poured concrete and manufactured pavers cannot replicate. We work with sandstone, limestone, quartzite, and slate in both random and cut formats. Natural stone requires more skill and time to install correctly but creates a truly distinctive outdoor space. We source quality stone and install it on a proper base suited to Calgary's freeze-thaw conditions.

03

Concrete Slab and Large-Format Pavers

Large-format concrete pavers (600mm x 600mm and larger) create a clean, contemporary look popular in modern Calgary homes. Products like Belgard's Mega Arbel and similar large-format slabs work well for minimalist designs where the size and simplicity of the slab is the design statement. These require precision base work and cutting to install correctly.

04

Front Entry and Garden Walkways

A well-designed front walkway frames your home's entry and makes a strong first impression. We design and install entry walkways in interlocking pavers, natural stone, and cut flagstone, with appropriate steps, borders, and plant bed edging to create a complete front yard presentation. Garden path work in the backyard creates structure and protects your lawn from foot traffic.

05

Fire Pit Areas and Outdoor Kitchen Bases

A fire pit pad or outdoor kitchen base requires a dedicated hard surface designed for heat resistance and drainage. We build these as integrated elements of a larger patio design or as standalone feature areas. Proper base depth, drainage slope, and non-combustible material selection are all key factors we address in every fire pit and kitchen base installation.

06

Driveway Aprons and Accents

Interlocking paver driveway aprons and decorative accents add a premium touch to your property's approach and significantly improve curb appeal. A paver apron at the street edge of your driveway or a decorative border treatment around a poured concrete driveway can transform the look of your front yard without replacing the entire driveway.

How We Work

Our Process

01

Design Consultation

We walk your space, discuss your vision, and recommend the right Belgard product and pattern for your style and budget. Product samples available.

02

Site Prep & Excavation

We excavate to the correct depth for your soil type and Calgary's frost depth requirements, ensuring a stable sub-base.

03

Compacted Base Layer

A properly graded, compacted granular base is the key to pavers that never shift. We don't cut corners here.

04

Paver Installation

Pavers are laid to pattern with precise cuts, consistent joint spacing, and proper slope for drainage.

05

Edge Restraint & Sealing

Perimeter restraints lock the field in place. Joint sand is locked with a quality sealer for a clean, protected finish.

Why All The Moore

Why Calgary Homeowners Choose Us for Patios & Walkways

Certified Belgard Installer Status

Not every contractor who installs Belgard products is a certified installer. Certification requires factory training, demonstrated installation quality, and ongoing accountability to Belgard's standards. As certified installers, we have access to Belgard's full product line, technical support, and we can register your project for Belgard's warranty program. This is a meaningful difference when evaluating patio contractors in Calgary.

Base Work Done to the Right Standard

The most common reason paver patios fail in Calgary is inadequate base depth and compaction. We excavate to the depth required for our frost conditions, install a proper granular base, compact in lifts using plate compaction equipment, and check grade before any paver goes down. This is not a step that can be rushed or skipped, and we don't.

We Seal Every Installation

Sealing is included in every patio installation we complete. A quality paver sealer locks polymeric jointing sand, protects against staining, and enhances the colour and finish of the pavers. We apply sealer as the final step on every project so you're starting with a fully protected surface from day one.

Clear Pricing With No Surprises

Our quotes are detailed and specific. You'll know exactly what product we're installing, how deep we're excavating, what the base specification is, and what the finished scope includes. There are no vague allowances or items that suddenly cost more once work is underway. What we quote is what you pay.

We Design for Your Specific Yard

We don't apply a standard template to every job. Each yard has different drainage needs, sun and shade patterns, access points, and visual relationships to the house. We design the layout and product selection to work with your specific property, not against it. Pattern choices, border treatments, and step integration are all considered as part of the design conversation.

Long-Term Relationship, Not a One-Time Job

Most of our patio clients come back for other phases of their landscape project: lighting, planting, a fence. We build the relationship from the first project so that you have a trusted contractor who already knows your property when the next phase comes around. Many of our best clients started with a single patio and now call us for everything.

Common Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Why choose Belgard pavers over other brands?
Belgard is one of North America's most respected hardscape manufacturers, known for superior compressive strength, dimensional consistency, and a wide range of products suited to different design styles and budgets. As certified installers, we receive factory training and ongoing technical support, we have access to the full product line, and we can register your project for Belgard's warranty program. You also benefit from working with a contractor who is accountable to Belgard's quality standards, not just their own.
How do Calgary's freeze-thaw cycles affect patio longevity?
Freeze-thaw cycles are the primary reason paver patios fail in Calgary. When water gets into the base material and freezes, it expands and pushes pavers up. When it thaws, they settle back, but not always evenly. Over several seasons this creates heaved, uneven, and cracked surfaces. The solution is a base that is deep enough to sit below frost depth, properly compacted, and graded to drain water out of the system before it can freeze. Belgard pavers are manufactured to handle this climate. A correctly installed Belgard patio in Calgary should last 25 years or more with minimal maintenance.
How long does a patio installation take?
A typical residential patio in the 400 to 800 square foot range takes three to five days from excavation through final sealing. Projects involving retaining walls, integrated steps, fire pit areas, or complex patterns take longer. We'll provide a specific timeline broken down by phase in your quote so you know exactly what to expect, including when we'll need access and when the surface will be ready to use.
Should I seal my pavers, and how often?
Yes, and we do this for you as part of every installation. A quality paver sealer locks polymeric jointing sand to prevent it from washing out, protects the surface against oil, food, and organic staining, and enhances the colour and texture of the pavers. We apply sealer as the final step on every patio we build. For maintenance, re-sealing every three to five years is typical depending on traffic, sun exposure, and whether you use de-icing salt in adjacent areas.
Can you match our home's style or existing landscaping?
Absolutely. Belgard's product range spans from contemporary large-format slabs to traditional cobble and tumbled stone finishes. We'll pull samples and discuss the options that make sense for your home's architectural style, your existing materials, and your personal taste. Getting the product selection right before we order is part of our design consultation process.
What is polymeric jointing sand and do you use it?
Polymeric jointing sand is a specially formulated blend of sand and binding agents that, when activated with water, forms a semi-rigid bond in the joints between pavers. It resists washing out in rain, prevents weed seed germination, and deters ants from excavating the joints. We use polymeric jointing sand on every paver installation as standard, not as an upgrade.
Can you replace or repair an existing patio that was poorly installed?
Yes, patio repair and replacement is a significant part of our work. If your existing patio is heaving, has sinking sections, or the jointing sand has washed out and weeds are taking over, we can assess the situation and recommend either targeted repairs (re-setting specific areas, adding drainage) or a full tear-out and reinstall. In many cases, the pavers themselves are still in good condition and can be reused with a properly rebuilt base.
Do you install patios in winter in Calgary?
Patio installation requires ground temperatures above freezing at the time of installation for the base compaction and jointing sand to work properly. We typically operate from late April through October depending on conditions. For projects planned over winter, we take deposits and schedule spring installations in advance. Our spring booking fills quickly, so it pays to get in touch early if you have a project for the coming season.
